Abstract
- The article focuses on the Henri Philippe Pétain was a French general officer who attained the position of Marshal of France at the end of World War I. Topics include the 84-year-old Pétain was named French prime minister after a cabinet crisis on whether to continue fighting the Germans or lay down arms; and before the war, Pétain was widely admired by French nationalists who remembered his battlefield courage in World War I and his strategic acumen later as Minister of War.
