Abstract
- Several bromoanilines and bromophenols were synthesized in good to nearly quantitative yields using a mixture of potassium bromide and potassium bromate in presence of dilute acid under mild conditions in a short time. Some of the prepared Bromo derivatives showed fairly strong antioxidant properties when screened for in vitro antioxidant activity using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and compared with standard natural antioxidant Lascorbic acid. Most of the synthesized Bromo compounds displayed broad-spectrum activity against Bacillus subtilis, but except one, they were found to be inactive against Escherichia coli. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
