Abstract

A continuous flow model to simulate the horizontal centrifugal casting was built based on the numerical simulation technique of filling and solidification processes, which realized the continuous simulation of the metallic melt from the pouring gate to the mold filling in the cavity of the steel back. The effects of different rotate speeds, pouring rates and cooling methods on the filling process and the solidification temperature field of centrifugal casting Babbitt lining were studied. The results show that the rotate speed and the pouring rate mainly influenced the flow states of the molten metal in the filling process. The cooling method decided the solidification rate and then affected the microstructure of the casting. The defects of the Babbitt lining manufactured by horizontal centrifugal casting machine were found to occur in the final solidified region of the simulation model. The simulation model built in this paper is designed to guide the improvement in the actual process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
