Abstract

The article discusses seismology has reached a crossroads in the conceptual understanding of how earthquakes start. Topics include migratory nucleation exists on a natural fault implies that more-observable migratory precursors occur before earthquakes; and using Global Positioning System and passive seismic records of the observed daily ice stream earthquake cycle of the Whillans Ice Plain.
