Abstract

The modern world is showing huge gaps for overcoming the inequalities that overwhelm millions of people, which have an impact on population 's quality of life. The coexistence of three epidemics: undernutrition, obesity and climate change represent the challenges that should be faced from a critical perspective of the traditional science in order to adequately feed the planet. Obesity as well as undernutrition are recognized diseases that impair the people's health and represent an increased risk for the development of future diseases. Because of this, a real necessity is the achievement of a balanced, adequate and sufficient diet for all. How to achieve a sustainable diet over time and also to cooperate in the amelioration of the planet's climate changes has become an intense scientific, political and social controversy. The hidden narrative behind the statistics must be brought to the forefront of the debates and for this, it is necessary to broaden the vision of the basic problems faced by the humanity for eating. To explain this phenomenon, a holistic perspective is urgently needed that includes the methodological scientific structure, a trans-sectorial approach and a social qualitative description. In this paper, the modern dilemma is reviewed and an attempt is made to broaden the horizon of understanding through provocative questions that may contribute to advancing the comprehensive approach of the traditional controversies such as hunger and politics.
