Abstract

Advising Nixon: The White House Memos of Patrick J. Buchanan. Writing on November 10, 1972 (shortly after Election Day), Buchanan was optimistic: Nixon was the "Republican FDR", potentially building a new political regime, or "dynasty" in Buchanan's pre-Skowronek lexicon (291). Not only was Buchanan a talented wordsmith for the president, but he was also a prolific memo writer to him and other key aides, such as White House Chief of Staff H.R. Haldeman, on a variety of political and policy topics. [Extracted from the article]
