The article presents a characterization of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic penaeidae and rock shrimp (Sicyoniidae) fisheries through mandatory observer coverage from 2011 to 2016. Topics include the effects of southeastern shrimp trawl fishery on commercial, recreational and ecologically essential fish stocks, and the estimated catch per unit of effort (CPUE) trends and spatial distribution for target and nontarget species.
