Abstract

The article presents a critical note on revolution in sociology. The author emphasizes on the general critique of ethanomethodology as given by sociologist John Goldthorpe. Ethnomethodology is organized round a set of concerns and is by no means monolithic in structure. At a number of points, Goldthorpe implicitly and sometimes explicitly, seems adopt the standpoint of holding what might be characterized as a correspondence theory of reality. In contrast to the correspondence theory, the ethnomethodologist adopts the position what may be termed the congruence theory. A related argument applies to Goldthorpe's very Durkheimian formulation of third work objects, such as works of art and unread books. In conclusion, one can agree with Goldthorpe's final remarks to the effect that only time will tell as to whether or not ethnomethodology constitutes a revolution in sociology.
