New steroidal glycosides from the roots of Asparagus cochinchinensis.

Steroidal saponins were the main active constituents of the traditional medicinal herb Asparagus cochinchinensis. A phytochemical investigation of A. cochinchinensis roots led to the isolation of nine new steroidal glycosides (1–9) and seven known analogues (10–16).
