Abstract

This article explores new possibilities for the study of political culture in Mexico. It moves away from electoral surveys and opinion polls into the analysis of everyday attitudes, rituals and symbols, principally highlighting the general historical conditions on which an "individualistic" rather than a "corporatist" culture may emerge. The paper suggests that the popular character of "the rogue" may provide important clues for the understanding of political values in Mexico. Additionally, it is argued that information concerning civic rituals and secondary socialization is also conducive to insights into political culture. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
