Abstract

Waqf is a noble practice that has been established in the history and culture of Islam. In the era of a rapidly developing world, waqf is no longer limited to providing a land for development. In fact, today waqf has been expanded to develop waterways for the benefit of the local community. This also coincides with the current situation since rapid development and industrialization often cause rivers to be polluted and disturb water supplies. This article examines the concepts and principles related to waqf and its application in the context of water waqf, as well as the development of legislation related to water waqf in Malaysia. This study is important since jurisdiction in the water sector is divided between the state and the federal government in Malaysia. Thus, the state’s law on water and waqf needs to be refined so that there is no conflict in the implementation of water waqf in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
