This study employs the methodology of prosodic analysis developed by Oldřich Švarný and aims to explore prosodic features of the film actor Ge You in the Chinese romantic comedy Be There or Be Square. Its goal is to obtain quantitative data depicting rhythmical characteristics of Modern Colloquial Chinese in casual conversation. After the linear segmentation, syllable prominence, and rhythmical structure of segments and cola were analysed, the resulting data were compared with the outputs of some of the previously published research on the prosody of Modern Chinese. Discovered differences could be regarded as prosodic specifics of the analysed material (i.e. above-average length of cola, a significant percentage of syllables with the reduced or missing tone, remarkable degree of superiority of descending rhythm within segments). This study's results can be used for further comparison and considered a part of the broader research project concerning prosodic features of different functional styles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
