Abstract

Discusses the efforts of Martin E. P. Seligman, president of the American Psychological Association, to begin using so-called `positive psychology,' which is aimed at shifting the emphasis in the discipline from a disease model to a health model. Series of meetings Seligman and colleagues will attend in hopes of spurring a similar shift across the social sciences; Slowness with which social scientists have adopted ideas concerning positive thinking.
