Contributions to the Understanding of Geomorphic Landscapes Published in theAnnals.

Papers on geomorphology published in theAnnalssince its inception are evaluated in terms of their contributions to the understanding of geomorphic landscapes. Six principles that underlie contemporary understanding of landscape structure and function are identified and used as a framework to evaluate contributions published. Research trends in the papers are described for four periods, with attention to the development of fundamental geomorphic concepts and advances in the six principles. Four influential papers (), one from each of the four periods, are critically evaluated in terms of their influence on subsequent scholarship and their contribution to conceptual understanding.
