Abstract

Introduction. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder of the central nervous system (CNS) with a predominant lesion of the compact part of the substantia nigra and the death of dopamine-producing neurons. Methods. Retrospective analysis of our database, as well as the study of foreign publications. Results. Recent studies of the etiology of PD indicate the possible role of viral and bacterial infections which are neurotropic in the development of the disease. Conclusion. The available data indicate that the etiopathogenesis of PD is multifactorial. The term “neuroinflammatory penumbra” can be used to describe the contribution of inflammatory responses to disease. A promising area for development may be new therapies that affect inflammatory responses in the nervous system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
