Abstract

Objective: To systematically evaluate the effects of virtual reality exposure therapy(VRET) in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD).Methods:Databases including Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Embase, SpringerLink, ClinicalKey, ScienceDirect were searched by computer for a limited period of time from the establishment of the database to August 2020,paper inclusion criteria were confined to randomized controlled trail of VRET and traditional treatment or in waitlist patients with PTSD. Results: A total of 301 patients with PTSD were included in this study. The pooled studies showed that VRET effectively alleviated PTSD total symptoms compared with those in waitlist(SMD=-0.51,95% CI:-0.89-0.14,P <0.01),but there was no significant difference in which compared with the traditional treatment group(SMD=-0.24,95% CI:-0.66-0.18,P> 0.05].The long-term efficacy of the VRET group after 3 months or 6 months was not statistically significant compared with the traditional treatment group(P>0.05).Conclusion:It suggests that virtual reality exposure therapy has a positive effect on relieving the symptom severity of post-traumatic stress disorder.
