Abstract

More than simply an introduction to the field, therefore, the book highlights how the COVID-19 pandemic has brought key mobilities issues to the fore and underscored the pertinence of this field to contemporary research. Directing our gaze towards the future, the final chapters argue that the COVID-19 pandemic and resultant global mobility disruptions provide an opportunity for a fundamental reconstruction of mobilities regimes in favour of more equitable and low-carbon systems. The spread of novel coronavirus known as COVID-19 in 2020 was followed by swift and extraordinary changes to global mobility, with almost all forms of movement being (re)characterised, literally and figuratively, "as problematic and pathological" (Cresswell, 2021, p. 59).
