Abstract

In one study on collegiate golfers, access to sunscreen and sun protective gear significantly increased sunscreen application during golf practice.8 A new sunscreen designed appropriately for rock climbers may promote sunscreen use. Although climbers demonstrated an understanding regarding proper sun protection through the utilization of sunscreen, this did not necessarily correlate to sunscreen routines. When participants were asked whether sunscreen should be used on skin that has a tan due to prior sun exposure, 85% acknowledged that sunscreen should be used on tanned skin.4 Ninety percent recognized the importance of sunscreen use during cloudy days.
