Abstract

The objective of this study is the evaluation of the antibacterial (in vitro) and antipyretic (in vivo) activity of the hydroalcoholic extracts of three organs (leaves, twigs and berries) of Jeniperus phoenicea L. The susceptibility test of bacterial strains (Escherichia coli ATCC25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923, Staphylococcus aureus subsp. aureus ATCC43300) was evaluated against our extracts by the agar medium diffusion method. Acute toxicity was determined by Lorke's method, to our extracts by the agar diffusion method. Mice induced by 20% beer yeast. The results show that leaf and twig extracts have a remarkable antibacterial effect on Gram+ bacteria. The acute toxicity text reveals that extracts from three organs are considered as weakly toxic substances, intraperitoneal administration of the hydro-alcoholic extracts of three organs at different doses significantly reduces hyperthermia. These results support, at least partially, some traditional therapeutic indications of the plant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
