Abstract
- The article discusses challenges associated with the restoration of African American burial grounds in the U.S. Topics explored include the efforts of volunteers Deidre Barnes and Debra Gonzalez-Garcia to save Geer Cemetery in Durham, North Carolina, the approval of the African-American Burial Grounds Network Act by the U.S. Senate, and the New York African Burial Ground Project which served as the model for the preservation of the Portsmouth African Burying Ground in New Hampshire.
