Abstract

The article reports on the leaders of the New York Fire Department to suspend nine firefighters due to alleged racist actions like online messages and memes following the death of African American George Floyd because of violent policing in 2020. Also cited are the claim by African American firefighters that their leaders previously tolerated sexism, racism and harassment, and the department's efforts to be more inclusive as per commissioner Daniel A. Nigro.
