The aim of this paper is to discuss, due to recent debates, historical evidence in medieval documentary sources related to the term anglo-saxon and its varieties. Based on the terms used in Latin and Old English in the documents, it will be approached how identity words designate the island english rulers. Therefore, it will also be taken into consideration medievalisms and uses of the past concerning the so-called Anglo-Saxon period, as well as the justifications behind the movement towards the ending of the term.
