Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop a Family Peace Scale by examining the psychometric properties to measure the family peace of married individuals. The sample of the study consists of a total of 846 participants, 526 women (62.2%) and 320 men (37.8%). In order to determine the structural validity of the scale explanatory factor and confirmatory factor analyses have been performed. In order to determine the reliability Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency coefficient was examined. The item analysis was evaluated by comparing the item-total score correlation coefficients and the independent groups t test, and the item average score of the lower 27% and upper 27% groups. The criterion-related validity was tested by calculating the Pearson moments product correlation coefficient for the relationships between the developed scale with the Family Harmony Scale, the Marriage Life Satisfaction Scale, and the Relationship Happiness Questionnaire. The results of the exploratory factor analysis concludes that the Family Peace Scale has a two-dimensional structure consisting of 15 items. The internal consistency coefficient of the scale was calculated as .95, the t values for the sub-upper groups' total item score averages were between -14.98 and -42.94, and the Pearson Product Moments correlation coefficients for the relationships between the total scores obtained from the scale items were calculated to between .69 and .82. The correlation values regarding the criterion validity of the Family Peace Scale were found to be between .65 and .82. The results of the Family Peace Scale research shows that scale can be used in scientific studies to be conducted in Turkey. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
