Abstract

Tree pruning plays a key role in fruit growing and the many other activities it underlies. It also represents a considerable challenge for the sustainability of fruit trees. In order to carry out this activity, arborists collect information from trees and interpret it using their expertise, experience and knowledge to determine the "pruning site" of the trees. They transform this reflection, into actions, by making precise gestures and adopting specific postures to realize the actual pruning of the trees. This process takes place during a very short time span. This communication presents the ergonomic analysis conducted in order to understand how arborists, manage to achieve a "good pruning" during the few minutes they spend on a tree while guaranteeing their own health by saving from the wear and tear of their bodies.
