Abstract

The article provides insights on the importance of surveillance in criminal investigation. The aim of surveillance is to supplement and confirm facts obtained in investigation. It describes the types of physical surveillance, namely, fixed, moving, and technical surveillance. Also discussed are the challenges associated with electronic surveillance in light of such legislation as the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-related Information Act 70 of 2002.
