Abstract

Thus, instead of political parties or party leadership, Smith focuses on the role of clergy, through data collected from the decade preceding the 2018 election. Although it addresses many more subquestions systematically throughout, the book is driven by two major questions: how have religious elites (clergy), congregants, and politicians constructed the culture wars in Brazil? This is surprising, since the issues that emerge in the book as most prominent in Brazil's culture wars are abortion and LGBTQ rights. [Extracted from the article]
