Abstract
- The goal of this research was to examine the associations between anxiety sensitivity, physical activities and body mass index. The study included 475 participants, 359 females and 116 males. They completed the Anxiety Sensitivity Inventory Index-3, Global Physical Activity Questionnaire and weight and height information in order to calculate the body mass index. This research results showed significant negative correlations between anxiety sensitivity and physical activity, and between anxiety sensitivity and body mass index. The more time participants spent in a sitting position and the less they spent time engaged in physical activity, the higher were the reported anxiety sensitivity results. Women reported higher anxiety sensitivity. Regression analysis showed that anxiety sensitivity in the female group was predicted by age and time spent in a sitting position, while in the male group anxiety sensitivity was predicted by age and free time physical activity. The results of the study confirm the need for individual approaches for the encouragement of physical activity as a mental health promoter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
