Abstract

The purpose of this article is the evolution of practices and discourses relating to the editing of Claude Lanzmann's films about the Holocaust. It's a case study about one part of Lanzmann's last film The Four Sisters (2018) entitled The Hippocratic Oath (89 minutes) which focuses on the life story of an Auschwitz survivor, Ruth Elias. This part of the documentary comes from a shooting led by Lanzmann in Tel-Aviv for Shoah. The question here is whether the editing process changed in 2018 and what are the epistemological consequences of this continuity or these variations in practices and in the discourse surrounding the editing of Lanzmann's films.
