Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to examine the activities on "Environmental Problems" in the 5th grade social studies textbooks in the direction of interdisciplinary teaching approach. Document review method was used in the research. The obtained data were analyzed through content analysis. The data were obtained by examining the 5th grade social studies textbooks that are coded A1 and A2. In both books, 16 activities on environmental problems were identified in total. The ratio of activities to all the activities in the books was determined as 9.01% in the A1 coded textbook and 3.54% in the A2 coded textbook. It has been determined that these activities are related to Turkish, Science, Information Technologies and Software courses. Activities on "environmental problems" were associated with a total of sixteen different Turkish, six Science, one Information Technologies and Software courses. The ratio of acquisitions that is detected to be associated with "environmental problems"-related activities in all acquisitions in that course is varied between 1-11%. It has been concluded that the activities on "Environmental Problems" in the social studies textbooks are insufficient in regard to interdisciplinary approaches within the scope of the fifth grade compulsory courses (except for foreign language).
