Conservação preventiva em acervos bibliográficos da Biblioteca Mário de Andrade.

The objective of this study is to present theoretical concepts of preventive conservation, presenting its importance in the protection of bibliographic collections, exposing the experience that I had as a document hygienist, intervening in works of the Municipal Library of Mário de Andrade (BMA) in 2014. The research methodology is composed of theoretical knowledge obtained in training courses (held in the Public Archive of the State of São Paulo). I also establish connection with contemporary authors who problematize the set of technical procedures, known as preventive conservation, using iconography that illustrates the biodeteriorative processes. By experiencing the job of sanitizing, it was perceptible how important it is to monitor and maintain the environmental conditions of the conservation areas of the collection, which can contribute to the preservation or deterioration of works and, consequently, information. It also becomes imperative to raise awareness among employees of all sectors of an institution, so that there is effective preservation of public goods, whether bibliographic or not.
