Abstract

I No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. i I - i Title IX, Education Amendments Act (1972) Four years after the passage of Title IX, during my first year as an undergraduate at Yale University, my rowing teammates and I participated in what might have been the first stand for gender equity in college athletics [[20]]. Title IX may have turned 50, but there are plenty of issues that remain, including enacting policies and guidance related to transgender student athletes and improving how schools handle the reporting of sexual assault on college campuses. Equity360: Gender, Race, and Ethnicity - Title IX Turns 50: Women Athletes Are Still Fighting Against Gender Disparities in Sports This inequity resulted in the NCAA President agreeing to an independent review of disparities and a commitment to ensure that "all student-athletes are equally supported" at NCAA events [[14]].
