Abstract

The heat transfer in the externally finned coil and shell tube heat exchanger is experimentally carried out. The experiments are achieved with a 50 cm total height and 1.5 cm inner diameter. A finned coil with about 4 m long and 0.44 cm inner diameter with external small fins (about 266 fin) was used. Three different hot or coil side flow rates and five various cold or shell side flow rates with constant temperature difference (ΔT = 20°C) were tested during the experiments. The temperature distribution along the heat equipment and the heat rate were determined and discussed. The results indicated that the temperature of the shell was increased with height and the side of shell mass rate of flow was significantly and positively affected it. An adopted value of shell side flow rate was determined according to the present operational conditions. Finally, the heat transfer rate was significantly influenced with the coil side mass rate of flow. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
