Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the condition of the Tambor-de-Mina as an Afro-Brazilian religious matrix from a case study at the Tambores-de-Mina Casa de São Benedito na Cruzada de Xangô (in Portuguese), in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Respondents recognize Tambor-de-Mina as a candomblé nation, the fruit of its origin in the state of Maranhão. It is suggested that the association may be an attempt to value its tradition in our context. More than the search for the irradiations of Afro-Brazilian cults that culminated in the formation of the studied community, the recommendation of this investigation is anchored in the permanent understanding of the syntheses carried out by Afro-Brazilian religions / spiritualities / ancestry in the national territory.
