SEDGES AHEAD With their unfussy versatility and sneaky, copycat appearance, the sedges are quiet heroes-in-themaking for North American gardens. Sedge stems are solid and usually triangular (inspiring the memory aide "sedges have edges"), while grass stems, called culms, are hollow and often round.
