Abstract

The experience of a cultural event presents, like any human activity, an intimate dimension. It is most often accompanied by emotions and the construction of knowledge. We have identified in particular a recurring relationship between the sense-making and emotions that suggests that knowing the emotions of visitors could enrich the reflection of museum designers. In order to gain an in-depth knowledge of the experience of audiences, we have implemented XEmotion, a new survey method for capturing emotions in a cultural context. This article explores the potentialities of such an approach which could become a new tool to apprehend a significant part of the public experience. We detail the background that led us to propose the XEmotion survey method as well as the evaluation of the uses of the charter itself by museum professionals. In the end, XEmotion seems to open new perspectives for analyzing the experience of the public. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
