Use of Evidence and Technology to Improve Quality and Eliminate Low-Value Care.

The article highlights the improvements in health care outcomes and reduction in total cost of care demonstrated by the Optimal Care ambulatory care delivery system of the Optum Care network. It cites the cause of excess cost in the U.S. health care system including administrative overhead and pharmaceutical pricing. One of the goals of the program is the rapid transition of high-quality evidence-based medicine into daily practice. Also cited are challenges in Optimal Care implementation.
