Abstract

Epoxidized Eucommia ulmoides gum (EEUG) with different epoxy contents is prepared by Eucommia ulmoides gum (EUG) to improve its elasticity and expand its applications. Unlike EUG, the crystallinity of EEUG decreases while the thermal stability increases significantly with the increase in epoxidation degree. Furthermore, the silicon dioxide-graphene oxide (SiO2-GO) nanohybrid was prepared by situ hydrolysis, which could play advantages of GO and SiO2 to provide multiple protections to the substrate. In this study, a facile strategy is used to fabricate EUG, EEUG, EUG/SiO2-GO, and EEUG/SiO2-GO films (E, EE, E/SG, and EE/SG) by electrospinning method. The interaction between EEUG and SiO2-GO is beneficial to EE/SG film with better thermal stability, mechanical properties, and chemical stabilities. Importantly, the EE/SG film shows a high ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) value, which indicates its preferable ultraviolet (UV) resistance performance. Therefore, this study provides a feasible strategy for the efficient UV resistance of the green EEUG and is expected to provide new ideas for the fabrication of bio-based multifunctional barrier material.
