Abstract

Discusses how scientists and tsunami experts will take a closer look at the Indian Ocean in order to better estimate how often the earthquakes occur under the ocean. Use of observations about the tsunami's destruction to provide improved computer models; Reference to the warning systems in the Pacific and the plans of communities to cope with tsunami disasters; Dependence of the wavelengths on the speed of the wave and the ocean depth; Consideration of the underwater effects of a tsunami; Development of tsunameters by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in order to detect changes in water pressure in the Pacific; Suggestion that the videos portraying the tsunami's waves are misleading because they due not illustrate the length of the waves.
