Abstract

Since the outbreak of the 2008 crsis, the inequality question has gained academic and political centrality. Inequality's conception transcends the field of economy and is related to the notion of social justice. The analysis of inequality has been approached from different theoretical perspectives: neoclassical-conservatives, liberal-keynesian, and radicals. Within academic literature exists a certain gap on the concrete study of the nexus touristification-inequality. From orthodox approaches the study of tourism and inequality has been based on quantitative methodologies, whereas critical approaches have analysed the causes and conditions that produce tourism related inequalities with qualitative methods. In this paper we propose a research agenda bridging quantitative methods with political economy radical analysis. Finally, the research presents the close link beteween touristification and inequality at the municipal level in Spain. The COVID-19 crisis, and its heavy impact on the toruism sector, might imply a severe increase of inequality in the most touristified spaces. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
