Abstract

This article focuses on the follow up of pollution control policy as proposed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). A new EPA determination that scores of counties have too much pollution from soot and dust could have major fallout for construction. Areas that do not comply by 2010 with recently adopted standards for the microscopic particles could have millions of dollars of federal transportation funds withheld. On December 17, 2004 EPA reported that 225 counties in 20 states and the District of Columbia do not meet rules for polluting" particulate matter" measuring 2.5 micrometers in diameter.
