Abstract

The article deals with strangers and trespassers as essential characters of a crime fiction. Topics include the potential of crime fiction to promote social criticism, some classical titles with dominant feature of strangeness such as Patricia Highsmith's "Strangers on the Train" and Bill Pronzini's "Strangers," the association of the stranger with binary relationships, and the implications of the critical potential of strangeness and trespassing ingrained in women's crime fiction.
