Abstract

The article focuses on the role of culture and language in cognition. It mentions German philosopher Johann Gottfried Herder prefigured some of the more Romantic visions of the role of language in building nationhood developed later by Alexander von Humboldt, along with the relations between language and thought as well as the origins of language.
