This paper presents the central aspects of Hinkelammert's critique of neoliberal theory and the "capitalist market as supreme being". He made a profound questioning of this theory between 1970 and 1984. In his last books he offers a questioning of the religion of the market, especially in The Totalitarianism of the Market. These investigations are part of his research program, which: a) constitutes an exceptional interpretation of the crises of contemporary societies and their market religion; b) his response is Marx's "praxis humanism", based on the principle of "man as supreme being for man".
