Abstract

The soybean exports provide several advantages such as increased profitability, the agroindustry productivity and the positive image around the quality of products on the international market. In contrast, Brazil is dependent on the purchase of non-renewable resources for the production of grain. The objective of this paper is to evaluate, using the Emergy accounting, if Brazil acquires real wealth when exports soybeans, comparing the Emergy of gross resources, through the relationship between the exported Emergy and the money paid by the importer and, also checking, whether there is an advantage in producing / exporting processed (bran and oil) instead of raw grain. Considering the year 2019, three indicators (EBR -Emergy Benefit Ratio, EER - Exchange Emergy Ratio, and OR - Opportunity Ratio) were calculated and the results show that Brazil benefits when it buys / imports non-renewable resources from the international market. The commercialization of grain and bran is, in general, disadvantageous, except when China is the importing country, but the commercialization of oil is advantageous in the studied period.
