Abstract
- Objektives: Many parameters such as age, length of hospital stay, need and duration of mechanical ventilation, concomitant comorbidities, infection, and laboratory parameters have an effect on intensive care patient mortality. In our research, we purposed to investigate which of these parameters have an effect on intensive care patient mortality. Methods: Our study, which was planned retrospectively, included 295 patients over the age of 18 who were hospitalized in the intensive care unit of our hospital between January 2018 and December 2019. They were divied up into two groups as discharged and ex-patients. The relationship between the parameters and mortality was compared between the groups. Results: The mean age of the patients, of whom 53.6% (n: 158) was male, was 76 years. The presence of neurological diseases, advanced age, and high Apache II score cause a significant increase in the mortality rate. Mortality was higher in patients considered to be intubated. High lactate, high RDW level, and low albumin levels were associated with increased mortality. It was determined that sodium and MPV values did not have a significant relationship with mortality. The mortality rate was found to be lower in patients who were hospitalized for less than 15 days. Conclusion: RDW, Albumin, and lactate values were found to affect the prognosis of the patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit. Following these values; will be beneficial in terms of starting treatment in the early period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
