Abstract

Objective: To investigate the prevalence and factors associated with frailty in the elderly in outpatient care. Methods: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, involving 100 elderly people. For this, a structured instrument was used, containing questions related to sociodemographic and clinical characteristics; and the Edmonton Fragility Scale (EFS). Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, with univariate analysis for all variables and Chi-square and Student's t tests. Results: Among the elderly, 34% had mild frailty and 27% were apparently vulnerable. The relationship between frailty, polypharmacy, advanced age and low education was evidenced. Conclusion: The majority of the elderly had mild frailty. There was a relationship between mild frailty and advanced age, low education and polypharmacy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
