Abstract

The main objective of this study was to investigate the complex relationship between HRM (Human Resources Management) practices, organizational engagement, and employee retention using mediation analysis. The sampling procedure used a purposive sampling design to select a total of 82 skilled employees at a mining contractor company. Mediation analysis uses the PROCESS Hayes macro. The results show that several HRM practices in the form of compensation, and training and development have an influence on employee retention through mediation of organizational engagement. This research was conducted in the coal mining industry in Indonesia and the analysis is based on data that cannot be generalized across various sectors and the wider international environment. The results provide useful information for human resource practitioners. Analysis of HRM Practices and Organizational Engagement yields detailed retention information for practitioners, enabling them to target the right employees with the right strategies. This study expands the literature by empirically adding evidence that the relationship of HRM Practices mediated by Organizational Engagement to Employee Retention in the mining industry coal in Indonesia.
