Abstract

In the experiment, butylacetate was used as the extraction solvent to optimize the extraction process of β-carotene. After concentration, crystallization and recrystallization, pure β-carotene with high content was prepared. The results showed that the optimal extraction conditions were extraction temperature 45 °C, two extraction time 1 h, ratio of liquid to material 10 mL/g for one extraction, ratio of liquid to material 7 mL/g for two extraction. Recrystallization of coarse and fine powder was carried out to obtain pure β-carotene product, whose content was 95%. The study indicates that the purified carotene obtained by the optimized extraction process has higher content, and the solvent used can be recycled and less pollution to the environment, which can be widely used in the application of feed additives.
