Abstract

I The Social Movement Archive i is a collection of interviews and reproductions of political ephemera from American social movements compiled by information workers and volunteers at the Interference Archive[1] Jen Hoyer and Nora Almeida. As some interviewees highlight (37, 63, 169), although the tangible and material traces of social movements are no doubt central in the activist archive, it is also imperative for the social movement archive to centre intangible traditions of cultural and knowledge production in social movements (for example, oral histories, performance, storytelling, etc). Notes 1 The Interference Archive is a community-led archive specializing in materials relating to the intersection between activism, social movements, and cultural production. As the authors write, We are less interested in contributing to the growing body of academic, theoretical texts about archives and social movement material than we are in exploring what archives mean to and for activists who are involved in producing cultural ephemera.
