Abstract

The article discusses the history of office which started to become mainstream during the 19th-century. Topics include the role of office in establishing a bureaucratic management by monarchies and trading companies of 17th- and 18th-century Europe, an argument on the necessity of an office work as it can be done remotely, Max Weber's description of bureaucracy in the office during the administrative expansion in 1921, and author J. K. Huysmans' thought on the death of the office in 2020s.
